The NSLA Committee

Kate Groth

Vice Chairperson

What inspired you to get involved in Landcare?

Using agricultural practices to repair the environment.

What do you like best about your role/Landcare?

The best part of being chair is getting to work with a committee of people from different backgrounds. I love being part of an organisation that supports and educates people in agricultural practices that will nurture the land, creating communities that will be sustainable for my children's, children's, children.

Geoff Cruickshank

Committee

What inspired you to get involved with Landcare?

As a third generation Farmer and Grazier I found Landcare an opportunity to join a grass roots organisation and hopefully make a positive difference to our environment .

What do you like best about your role/Landcare?

Try to balance our business and improve environmental outcomes and to hopefully hand our land on in better condition and encourage more people to become involved. It is a pleasure to work with many likeminded and enthusiastic people

Jo-Anna Skewes

Chairperson

What inspired you to get involved in Landcare ?

The opportunity to learn and grow with a community that are like minded!

What do you like best about your role?

Landcare gives me to opportunity to share the knowledge that I have and to also learn off like-minded people. Whether it be about what does work or what hasn't worked, its about being able to brainstorm and support others to better the agricultural industry.

Treasurer

Janny Cruickshank

Committee

What inspired you to get involved in Landcare?

To be honest, initially my husband encouraged me to nominate for this position to help make up a quorum at meetings so that more meetings could be productive. We both could be involved.

What do you like best about your role/Landcare

I have a firm belief that we should strive to leave our communities, land, and environment in a better condition than when we began our stewardship. The exciting element for me, with Landcare, has been the continuing knowledge I find I gather from Members and staff during committee meetings where decisions are made, and interesting projects are reported on.

Ran Mitchell

Committee

What inspired you to get involved in Landcare?

It provides many opportunities to learn and share about improving how to better manage the land and its soils

What do you like best about your role?

I get to meet with like minded people and be involved in actually making decisions for improving agricultural practices across a wide and varied area

Jason Mack

Committee

What inspired you to get involved with Landcare?

I had a want/need to learn more about healthy land and soils that drew me to Landcare. I found the best way to do that was to be involved with Landcare and then join the committee to be a part of the conversation.

What do you like best about your role/Landcare?

I enjoy being part of the steering committee to be part of the solution. Hopefully help move the conversation others might enjoy to learn about and continue or start their journey down the path of healthy soils. Whether it’s in a garden or in the paddock, we can all be better.

Melanie Morton

Business Support Officer

Alison Young

Local Landcare Coordinator

What inspired you to get involved in Landcare?

I have been involved in agriculture within northwest NSW for 30 years both in the irrigated farming space, living and working on farm, and research into innovative solutions for growers. I am very interested in sustainability of the wider landscape to improve/maintain the land for future generations. I believe that Landcare is a gateway to help achieve this

Kiara Temperley

Local Landcare Coordinator

What inspired you to getinvolved in Landcare?

I have a deep passion for the agricultural industry as well as the environment. Working for Landcare allows me to support both passions. I am also excited to get involved with my local community and support other people who share these passions.

Ali Bigg

Local Landcare Coordinator

What inspired you to get involved in Landcare?

Working for a grass-roots organisation again was appealing. Landcare was a great fit due to my passion for, and history with, natural resource management and community projects.  I was also keen to work in a role that can support creative solutions to our challenging climate situation. The tree-change was an added bonus!

What do you like best about your role/Landcare?

The variety. The people. The land. The opportunity to work like mycelium - creating networks and connections across activities, ultimately leading to a more robust environment, and community.

Debi Bancroft

Harrisia Cactus Project Officer

What inspired you to get involved in Landcare?

A firm belief that Landcare can help manage sustainable natural and productive landscapes.

What do you like best about your role/Landcare?

I enjoy the community engagement/educational part of my role with NSLA, increasing awareness of invasive species. I consider myself to be very lucky, to be a member of a team of passionate people, both from Landcare and the NW Local Land Services, engaging with landholders, industry and the wider community.

Shelley McDouall

Regional Landcare Coordinator

What inspired you to get involved in Landcare?

A love of  the natural environment, rural Australia and working with people made working with Landcare a perfect fit for me.

What do you like best about your role/Landcare?

Helping landholders on their regenerative farming path through developing new farmer groups and assisting existing farmer groups to source funding and knowledge.  Seeing tangible results in the landscape from what we do through our threatened species projects, and building community networks.
