Empowering communities for a sustainable future

With a track record of over 126 successful leadership programs delivered in the last 30 years, the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation has been dedicated to building thriving rural, regional, and remote communities. Working with people across the country, they have helped create a network of more than 2,500 leaders ready to face new challenges with a fresh perspective.

This workshop is part of the Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought Initiative under the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund, with a mission to offer tailored support to agriculture-dependent communities across rural, regional, and remote Australia. By joining forces with FRRR and the ARLF, Northern Slopes Landcare aims to make a significant impact on our communities' preparedness and resilience to the effects of drought and a changing climate.

How drought resilience and leadership relate to each other

The frequency and severity of drought and dry periods in the future is predicted to increase. In response, many farmers are taking proactive measures to prepare and adapt. However, it is equally important for the communities upon which these farmers rely to have opportunities to come together and collectively address the challenges posed by drought, changing climates and more. But coming together and working together can be difficult, particularly when everyone has different experiences and perspectives. This is where leadership comes in. By getting to know ourselves and those around us, and growing key leadership attributes such as self-awareness, communication and conflict resolution, we can foster collaboration and proactive behaviours and build communities that can weather the challenges to emerge stronger, together.

Will I be away from home or work?

Yes, this program is face-to-face. You will need to take time off work and family commitments including childcare to participate in business hours.

I’m not a leader. Should I sign up?

Absolutely. Many people who participate in an Australian Rural Leadership Foundation program are not in traditional or formal leadership roles. We understand calling yourself a leader can feel a little strange, but don’t worry, we see leadership as a behaviour and intent that has nothing to do with your job, role or title. If you are actively involved in your community, part of a committee or just interested in finding your way into a space of contributing, you are more than welcome in this program.
