2008 Landcare Adventure UGLA Award Winners

01/01/2008

Sharaan Robinson - Warialda Rivercare Committee Member
Sharaans’ commitment to community and environment is well evidenced by her ongoing involvement in the Warialda Rivercare Committee.

Warialda Rivercare will celebrate it’s 10th year next year, each year with Sharaan a member of the executive committee. Warialda rivercare started with an overgrown jungle of introduced species and the Warialda community now has a parkland and passive recreation area of which the community is justly proud. The space is used by a multitude of community members and groups for such things as Christmas carnivals, musical events, family picnics, exercising the dog or just strolling along enjoying the ambience.

Sharaan is a driving force of action, meeting plans, scheduled working bees, rock work, embankment construction, planting and maintaining the trees and shrubs are all in her job description.

After all that. Sharaan would then insist she had a casserole cooking for all to enjoy. Sharaans’ enthusiasm, drive and commitment is to be commended and applauded. Well done Sharaan!

Roger McGrath - Environmental Services Director Gwydir Shire Council
The Upper Gwydir Landcare Assn, would like to congratulate the Gwydir Shire Council on its vision to support the UGLA in Bingara.

Thanks to Roger and the Gwydir Shire Council, the Upper Gwydir Landcare Assn, now has a wonderful office space in the main street of Bingara.

The support shown to the UGLA is nothing short of amazing. Roger has seen us through the move - to our new office, a heat wave – hence the air conditioning, and of course during the wonderful rain in December, the roof leaked twice- on the computer!

Through all that and more Roger continues to smile and offer support and encouragement when needed. I have to say, coming in, as I did on short notice, Roger has shown me great courtesy and assistance. Thank you to Roger and the Gwydir Shire Council.
