Upper Gwydir Landcare and Best Employment Join Forces

01/01/2009

Of the current activities the UGLA is involved with, the project with Best Employment is showing great results. This project is supporting ongoing Environmental projects in Bingara and Warialda.

In Bingara The Biodiversity planting site has been mulched, the weeds are being dealt with and area has recently been fenced to protect the new plantings from straying animals. The previous plantings on the site are now well over 2 metres in height and growing. The results, that is, increase in bird and small animal life, weed management and the growth of the biodiversity plantings are not easily evident, however the UGLA is happy to see this site now showing evidence of what was originally planned.

The project in Warialda is supporting the work of the Warialda Rivercare group. Working on the Warialda Creek within the township, the small but committed group has ongoing plans and the project with Best Employment has provided much need manpower. The project over the years has seen the site cleaned up, weeds controlled, native trees and shrubs planted, rock walls and gardens established. The site is now well used by the community and will have lots of uses in the future.
