The Northern Slopes Landcare Association was established in 1998 to bring together various Local Landcare Groups under one umbrella organisation that spans the Gwydir, Moree Plains, Narrabri, and Walgett Local Government areas. Our Association is managed by a committee representing these regions and employs dedicated staff to support a diverse range of groups — including rural, urban, and peri-urban communities — in achieving our vision of Healthy Landscapes, Healthy Food, and Healthy People.

With over 200 members, we engage in a variety of activities, including farmer collaborations and educational projects focused on regenerative practices, operating a Community Nursery, promoting biodiversity conservation, restoring rivers, and managing invasive species. As an active member of North West Regional Land carers, we collaborate closely with North West Local Land Services, Local Government, and various stakeholders to ensure our projects and activities are efficient, effective, and strategically aligned.

Our Featured Projects

Discover the projects we have completed that have had a positive impact to our ecosystem.
The Living Classroom Community Nursery

The Living Classroom Community Nursery

We started operations in November 2023 with seed funding from Australian Government's Future Drought Fund Community Impact Program, administered by FRRR. We focus on growing community through plants, mostly local natives and organically grown vegetable and herb seedlings, helping to fulfill the NSLA Vision of Healthy Landscapes, Healthy Food, Healthy People.

Volunteers meet on Tuesdays (8-11am in summer, 9-12noon in winter) for a variety of plant propagation activities, laughter and the odd cuppa. No time commitment is necessary and we can cater to almost all abilities. We sell plants at the nursery on Tuesday mornings and at the Bingara Lion's Markets on the 4th Saturday of the month. Our pricing is very competitive, our main aim being plants in the ground.

Roving Trapper Program 2021-2025

Roving Trapper Program 2021-2025

A partnership with North West Local Land Services to assist in delivering regional integrated wild dog control programs through the provision of funding for wild dog trapping contractors and promoting wild dog awareness.

The Roving Trapper Program will assist Landholders who are actively participating in group baiting programs to access wild dog trapping services.  This will improve the effectiveness of existing on-ground programs, especially in emerging wild dog areas with an overall aim to minimise livestock losses and wild dog attacks.

Northern Slopes Landcare will support Biosecurity Officers in the North West LLS region in working with groups and administering the funding.
